Garcia Fans 11, Tourists Rally to Beat Braves

Asheville Tourists News Release
ROME - The Asheville Tourists had little time to dwell on Saturday night's tough loss because they were right back on the field Sunday afternoon against the Rome Braves. The game started in a similar fashion with the Tourists falling behind early, but today Asheville's comeback was the story. The Tourists exploded late and beat the Braves 5-4 to even up the series.
Terrin Vavra led off the ballgame with a monstrous Home Run to right-centerfield but the Braves responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Asheville's starting pitcher, Alfredo Garcia, settled in after the rocky first inning and went on to strike out a season-high 11 batters in five innings of work. Garcia allowed only one additional run over the next four innings.
Trailing 4-1 entering the seventh inning, the Tourists mounted a rally off a Will Golsan single, a Luke Morgan walk, and a Javier Guevara two-run double. Guevara would come in to score the tying run later in the inning on Daniel Montano's sacrifice fly.
With the score knotted up 4-4 the Tourists received back-to-back two out doubles in the top of the ninth inning by Montano and Coco Montes. The second of the two-baggers gave Asheville a 5-4 lead and an opportunity to steal this one on the road.
Alexander Martinez was called upon in the bottom of the ninth and after allowing a one-out single followed by a walk, the right-hander buckled down to retired the next two hitters. Martinez earned his 10th save of the year and Jake Bird was awarded the win by tossing three perfect innings out of the bullpen.
The Tourists and the Braves are back in action on Monday night with a 7:00pm first pitch scheduled at State Mutual Stadium.
