Plymouth, MI. - The Tri-City Storm will face off against Team USA for the final time this season tonight at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, MI. Last night, the Storm fell to Team USA in a shootout by a final score of 5-4. Tonight's matchup is the second game of a three-game road stretch for Tri-City. The Storm will face off against Madison on the road tomorrow night in the final game of the week. Puck drop for tonight's game against Team USA is scheduled for 6:00pm CT.
Tri-City (21-6-1-1) seeks a bounce back victory in today's game against Team USA after falling last night in a shootout. In last night's game, the Storm got goals from Brendan Furry, Colton Kalezic, Khristian Acosta, and Colby Ambrosio, but gave up the game tying goal to USA's Hunter Strand in the 3rd period and eventually fell 5-4 in a shootout after neither team found a goal in the three on three overtime period. Despite the loss, Tri-City remains at the top of the Western Conference standings with 44 points. Though the team's three game win streak was snapped last night, Tri-City picked up one point in the standings with a loss in a shootout. The Storm has now gotten points in four of its last five games and is 7-2-0-1 in its last ten games. Last night's loss was the Storm's first of the season against an Eastern Conference opponent, and the team will seek to stop a four-game losing streak to Team USA in tonight's game that dates back to last season. Tri-City's last win against Team USA was a 4-3 victory on January 28th, 2017.
Team USA (10-10-1-2) became the 14th USHL team to get to double digit wins on the season in last night's 5-4 shootout victory over Tri-City. Omaha, Lincoln, and Madison are now the only teams in the USHL standings with less than 10 wins on the season. Team USA is now just three points behind Green Bay for 6th place and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Team USA continued its success against Western Conference opponents in last night's win, improving to 5-1 on the season. Team USA can clinch the season series against Tri-City for the 2nd consecutive season with a win in tonight's game. A Tri-City win in regulation would give the Storm its first season series victory against Team USA since the 2014-2015 season.
Today's game is set to begin at 6:00pm CT, and will be streamed live on HockeyTV, and Storm Radio.
