Gameday Preview: Storm Seek Bounce Back Win against Stampede

Sioux Falls, SD. - The Tri-City Storm complete a four game season series against the Sioux Falls Stampede tonight at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD. After taking the first two games in the season series, Tri-City dropped its first game in the season series, falling to the Stampede 4-1 last night. Brendan Budy netted the Storm's only goal in the game in the 2nd period on the power play. Tri-City still holds a two-point lead over the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL league standings and can clinch a playoff spot tonight with a win, an overtime or shootout loss, or an Omaha loss to Lincoln. Puck drop for tonight's game is set for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (35-10-2-1) became the last team in the USHL to reach a double-digit regulation loss total in last night's road loss to Sioux Falls. Last night's game also marked the end of a seven-game streak in which the Storm had recorded atleast one point in the standings. Tri-City is 9-3 in games following a loss this season and seeks its first road victory against Sioux Falls in over three years in tonight's game. The Storm is 7-2-1-0 over the past ten games and brings a road record of 16-7-0-1 into tonight's contest. Tri-City's power play improved to 19.0% on the season following Brendan Budy's power play goal in last night's game. The Storm's penalty kill has been at the top of the USHL ranks for much of this season and is currently ranked 1st at 88.3% on the year. Following tonight's road game in Sioux Falls, Tri-City will return home to the Viaero Center for five consecutive home games beginning on Friday, March 8th against Sioux City.

Sioux Falls (30-12-3-1) has won 8 of its last 10 games and enters tonight's game as the 3rd place team in the Western Conference standings. In last night's 4-1 win over Tri-City, Sioux Falls got goals in the game from Austen Swankler, Sam Stevens, Ethan Phillips, and Jami Krannila. The Stampede could move into 2nd place in the Western Conference standings with a win over Tri-City tonight and a Waterloo loss to Fargo. Sioux Falls has now won nine straight games on home ice, and fourteen of their last fifteen played at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. In last night's game, Stampede goaltender Alec Calvaruso made 18 saves on 19 shots and improved to 15-3 this season in net.
