Adirondack Thunder News Release
WHO: Adirondack Thunder (26-14-4-4) @ Atlanta Gladiators (18-24-6-1) WHAT: ECHL REGULAR SEASON GAME
WHEN: Friday, February 17, 2017 @ 7:35 PM
WHERE: Infinite Energy Arena - Duluth, Georgia
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The Thunder visit the Atlanta Gladiators for the first of two games at Infinite Energy Arena. Tonight's matchup will be the first of the season against the Gladiators and the second in franchise history. Adirondack was victorious 4-1 in the lone meeting last season.
POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: Adirondack came back from two goals down twice in the third period to earn a point in a 6-5 shootout loss to Reading on Tuesday in Glens Falls. The Thunder scored three goals overall in the third period but could not complete the comeback in overtime despite a season-high five overtime shots. Reading scored the shootout's lone goal to earn the extra point.
MACTION: Adirondack Thunder Captain Peter MacArthur scored the game-tying goal with just 18 seconds on the clock in regulation to earn his team a point on Tuesday. MacArthur, who also had an assist on the evening, reached the 40-point mark on the season. The Clifton Park, NY is now tied for the team lead in scoring at 40 points (14-26-40) from 43 games played.
BROCK BOTTOM: Thunder forward Brock Montgomery led the Thunder with a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 6-5 shootout defeat to Reading, including an assist on MacArthur's game-tying goal. Montgomery has amassed five points (3-2-5) in three games with the Thunder. On the season, split between Orlando and Adirondack, Montgomery has now collected 11 points (5-6-11) in 15 games played.
STEP BROTHERS: Rookie defenseman Stepan Falkovsky scored yet another goal on Tuesday as he extended his point streak to nine games. The 6-7 blueliner currently leads all ECHL defensemen with 15 goals this season, two clear of his nearest foe. Falkovsky also leads the league in power-play goals from the blueline with 11 and is just one shy of the overall league leader, Allen's Greger Hanson.
WALL ME MAYBE: Thunder blueliner Alex Wall collected another assist on Tuesday to bring his total to 30 on the season. Wall has amassed 34 points (4-30-34) in 2016-17 and the 5-11 defenseman is now tied for third in the ECHL in assists by a defenseman, second amongst first-year players behind only Wheeling's Kevin Schulze. Wall has picked up at least a point in 10 of his last 12 games and has collected 13 points (1-12-13) in that span.
THE THUNDER WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA: Adirondack claimed a 4-1 victory in the only previous meeting between these two teams, which came on November 13, 2015. Forward Greg Wolfe scored the game-winning goal midway through the first period. Five current Thunder skaters (Wolfe, Patch Alber, Mike Bergin, Dana Fraser and Gunnar Hughes) were in the lineup that night while Drew Fielding was the backup goaltender.
