ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES -

Tonight, the Royals face the Elmira Jackals in the first of what will be three consecutive games between the two teams. This is the seventh matchup of a total of ten to be played in the 2016-17 regular season between Reading and Elmira. So far, the Royals have compiled a record of 5-1-0-0 against the Jackals.

-

The Jackals joined the ECHL in the 2007-08 season. Over the course of the ten years that Elmira has been part of the ECHL, Reading has compiled a record of 74-45-12 in 131 total regular season games played between the two organizations. o

The two teams have also faced off twice in the post-season with Reading claiming the 2008 North Division Semi-Finals (4-2), and the Jackals knocking off the Royals in the best-of-five 2012 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals (3-2). o

Since the 2013-14 season, the Royals have compiled an overall record of 35-10-3-1 in the last forty-nine games played against the Jackals. o

Since March 10, 2013, Reading has gone 19-3-2-0 in the last twenty-four games played at First Arena in Elmira.

-

Reading is coming off a 6-5 shootout win over the Adirondack Thunder in Glens Falls, New York, on Tuesday. That victory served to snap a three game losing streak for the Royals and restore the team's record to twelve games over .500 (29-17-1-2=61) through forty-nine games played, which puts the team in second place in North Division of the Eastern Conference. o

Tuesday's victory in Glens Falls served to push the Royals' road win streak to five-and the team is unbeaten in the last six games (5-0-0-1) played away from Santander Arena. o

Overall, Reading has so far gone 15-8-1-2 on the road with ten more regular season games to be played away from Santander Arena.

-

Reading struck first-forty-eight seconds after the opening face-off-on Tuesday. That was the twenty-seventh time this season that the Royals' scored the game's first goal. The team has compiled a record of 20-6-1-0, which is a .759 win percentage.

-

Tuesday's shootout win marked the sixth time this season that Reading has played in a game that has gone beyond regulation time (and the third time that extra time was required against the Adirondack Thunder). The Royals have gone 3-3 in those games. o

Tuesday's game marked the third time this year that the Royals have had to go to the shootout for a resolution-and the second time against the Adirondack-and the first time that Reading has won. o

That was the first shootout win for the Royals since February 27, 2016, when the Royals beat the Thunder 5-4 in a six-round shootout, when Brandon Alderson-shooting sixth-bagged the shootout winner.

(Goaltender Connor Knapp picked up the shootout win that night.) o

On Tuesday, it was Nick Luukko, shooting second, who bagged what proved to be the shootout winner for Reading. That was Luukko's first ever shootout attempt as a pro. Goaltender Mark Dekanich stopped all three shots he faced in the skills competition to notch the win. o

Historically, Tuesday's game was the 208th time (in 1129 games) that Reading has played in regular season game that has ended regulation time in a tie. It was the 100th win in games ending in a tie (100 - 108).

One-hundred and twenty-three of Reading's ties have gone to the shootout for resolution (eighty- five have ended in overtime). The Royals have gone 60-63 in shootouts during the sixteen year history of the team.

-

Reading fell behind on Tuesday, 2-1, 4:25 into the second period before mounting a successful come-back to take the two points. Despite the fact that Reading held leads of 1-0, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, 5-3, 5-4 and ultimately, 6-5, Tuesday's game was (technically) the eleventh come-from-behind win of the year for the Royals.

-

Tuesday's game marked the tenth time this season that Reading has scored six or more goals. The team has gone 9-1-0-0 in those games. o

Overall, Reading has scored 184 goals through forty-nine games, which is an average of 3.76 goals per game, fourth best in the league.

-

The 6-5 shootout win on Tuesday marked the tenth time this year Reading has allowed five or more goals (2-8-0- 0), including three of the last four games-and four of the last six played. o

-

The Royals' power play was blanked in four chances with the man advantage on Tuesday, marking the twenty- fifth time this season that Reading's PP has been held off the board (13-11-1-0). In the last four games, Reading has gone 1 for 17 with the man advantage.

-

Reading's penalty kill blanked Adirondack's power play on three chances with the man advantage on Tuesday, extending the stretch of kills for Reading's PK to seventeen straight. o

Over the last thirty-three games (during which Reading has gone 23-9-0-1), Reading's PK has knocked off 103 of the 112 power play chances the team has faced.

-

Mike Pereira scored the game's first goal forty-eight seconds into Tuesday's 6-5 shootout win. That was tenth goal of the year for Pereira-and his third "first goal" of the year. Pereira, who has seven points (3g-4a) in his last eight games played, is the eighth player this year to score ten or more goals with the Royals.

-

Tyrell Goulbourne recorded his second consecutive multi-point performance on Tuesday (1g-1a), which included scoring the team's second goal (to tie the game at two). Goulbourne has three goals in his last four games (3g- 2a=5pts).

-

Ryan Penny snapped a four game streak without a point when he scored Reading's third goal on Tuesday. Penny is fourth on the team with fifteen goals.

-

Robbie Czarnik, who scored the Royals' fourth and fifth goals on Tuesday, recorded his team-leading twelfth multi-point performance of the year (2g-1) that night. That was his third two-goal performance and second three-point game of the year.

-

Justin Crandall recorded his eleventh multi-point game of the year on Tuesday (0g-2a). Crandall, who played plus- two (+2) on Tuesday, leads the Royals in plus-minus at plus-23 (+23).
