Game Preview: Sting Host Firebirds for Some Wednesday Night Hockey at the Hive

The Sarnia Sting are set to welcome their division rival the Flint Firebirds tomorrow night back on home ice at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. These two teams met last Wednesday in Flint where the Sting controlled the game and won 5-1; moving the season series to 2-1 in favour of Sarnia. Both teams are coming off losses to the Ottawa 67's over the weekend, so both will be motivated to get back in the win column in tomorrow's contest.

Flint has been a surprise this season, currently sitting 3rd in the Western Conference just 1 point behind 1st place. The welcome addition of import Evgeniy Oksentyuk combined with great scoring contributions from their defensive corps has them in good condition to make a run this season.

Fast Facts Flint enters tomorrow's game against the Sting having the worst powerplay in the OHL, operating at a measly 13% on the season. Sarnia can't take them lightly though as the Firebirds do have some great offensive weapons in Jake Durham and captain Ty Dellandrea.

Sarnia currently sits 3rd in goals for on the season with 92. The Sting offense has been buzzing as of late with scoring throughout the lineup, but notably coming from the team's top line of Ryan Roth, Jamieson Rees and Sean Josling who combined, have scored 38 goals.

Players to Watch - Sarnia Sting Anthony Tabak - Sarnia's 3rd line center is experiencing a breakout season with the Sting this year. Tabak is coming off a 2 assist performance against Ottawa this past Sunday which gave him 15 points on the season; which is good enough to already match his total from last year. The Oakville, ON native has noticeably improved his skating, strength and face-off ability compared to last year, which makes him a dangerous player whenever he is out on the ice.

Jacob Perreault - The former 30 goal scorer is coming off a 2 goal outing against the Ottawa 67's, which were his 7th and 8th goals of the campaign. After going through a bit of a rough patch it seems as though Perreault has found his way back to the level he knows he can play at. His deadly wrist shot is a problem for goalies across the league and can find the back of the net from just about anywhere on the ice. It looks like the NHL Draft eligible is beginning to heat up at the right time for the Sting.

Players to Watch - Flint Firebirds Evgeniy Oksentyuk - Currently leading the Firebirds in points, the Belarusian forward has clearly found his stride since coming over to the OHL. With 23 points in 20 games, the forward uses his speed to burst by defenders and create havoc in the offensive zone. Oksentyuk is coming off a great performance in London last Friday night, having a goal and 2 assists in his team's 6-1 domination over the Knights.

Connor Roberts - In an OHL career riddled with injuries, it seems as though Roberts is finally having the productive season everyone believed he is capable of now that he is healthy. Roberts is a great two-way forward with great vision that makes him dangerous in the offensive zone. With 16 points so far on the season, 11 of them of been assists.

A reminder that this game was originally scheduled for an 11:00am puck drop, but has since been moved to 7:05pm.
