McMichael Continues Historic Start to Season
November 19, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
London Knights News Release
A shot from the point just under the arm of Kitchener Rangers' goalie Nathan Torchia found the back of the net during Sunday's afternoon game at Budweiser Gardens. The goal played its part in London's five to three win over the Rangers, but on the surface, it seemed to be no more spectacular than any of Connor McMichael's other goals this season. What made the goal truly remarkable was that it was his twentieth goal in 18 games. A feat which no Knights player has achieved in over a decade.
The last time the London Knights had a player achieve this stat was in the 2005-2006 season. Rob Schremp and Dave Bolland both reached "20 in under 20" in the fall of 2005. At the time, Kanye West's Gold Digger was at the top of the charts, Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah's couch, and Connor McMichael was four years old. Now 18 and on track for a historic season, McMichael has joined prestigious company.
With his current pace, McMichael is projected to reach 75 goals and 86 assists for a total of 161 points by the end of the 68-game season. Regardless of whether this total is reached, McMichael's individual performance and leadership role has been indispensable, and will continue to be. His style of play is one deserving of being in the leadership group, as is shown with the majority of his points this season being assists. His involvement in 43 goals throughout the first 18 games has resulted in the third highest plus-minus on the Knights, and in the top 15 in the OHL.
McMichael and the rest of your London Knights face a road trip of just over a full week, and will be back at Budweiser Gardens on November 29th as they host the Windsor Spitfires. If you would like to see the team showcase their talents, be sure to check out the London Knights Skills Competition Powered By Start.ca on Wednesday, November 27th at 6 pm at Budweiser Gardens.
