Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Islanders continued rolling right along last night when the Gatineau Olympiques were in Charlottetown. With last night's 2-0 win, the Isles now find themselves with a nice four-game win streak as they get ready to make their way over to TD Station for a bout this evening against the Saint John Sea Dogs. Puck drop is set for 7 pm this evening where both teams will be looking to build upon big games. The Sea Dogs just beat the Acadie-Bathurst Titan who have proven to be a top competitor in the Maritime Division this season, and the Isles coming off a big shutout win over the Olympiques.

Last night marked a special occasion for multiple Islanders. Jacob Goobie recorded his first-ever QMJHL shutout in his third season with the Isles. The 18-year-old faced 31 shots against Gatineau and managed to remain a brick wall throughout the whole game to earn the shutout and first star. The Olympiques proved to be a big energetic team pounding away at the net the entirety of the third period but it was no use as Goobie snatched up anything to come his way having elite vision all night.

Jakub Brabenec finally broke the ice and was able to pot his first QMJHL goal last night. The 18-year-old Czech import was supposed to be on the Island last year before Covid-19 prevented that. Now, in his rookie season, Brabenec has recorded seven points through eleven games, including the game-winner last night. Jakub found himself alone in front of the net with plenty of time to deke Remi Poirier right out of his skates before roofing a backhand shot for his first as an Islander and the game-winner, all in front of the home crowd.

The Saint John Sea Dogs after winning their game Sunday in Acadie-Bathurst 4-3, now sit with a record of 4-4-0-2 on the season. The season series between the Sea Dogs and Isles currently stands in Charlottetown's favor 2-1 with the Islanders outscoring Saint John 10-7. The Sea Dogs are currently lead in scoring by 19-year-old New York Islanders 5th round pick William Dufour. Through ten games played this season, Dufour has recorded nine goals and six assists for a total of fifteen points.

After Goobie's big night in net yesterday, you can expect Oliver Satny to get the call in Saint John before Jim Hulton most likely turns back to Goobie tomorrow night against the Wildcats. The Sea Dogs will likely look to Jonathan Lemieux after having rested since Sunday when he delivered a 39 save performance in the shootout win over the Titan.

You can expect Charlottetown's veteran presences to continue being the backbone of this team. Noah Laaouan is tied for the team lead in points with Xavier Simoneau at 14. Lukas Cormier trails only by one at 13 points on the year. Team leader in goals Patrick Guay sits at 12 total points this far. Intensity should be active early in this one as we get set for another edition of Maritime rivalry at the TD Station.
