Game Preview: November 13 vs Cape Breton
November 13, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
The first three-game stint in Quebec has now been completed with the capper being a tightly fought bout against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada that came down out in the Isles favor in the closing moments. Drew Elliott would be the man to thank for that win as he went on a tear through the french province posting a goal in each of the three games, including two and the game-winner against the Armada. Now, after getting to rest back on the Island this week, it isn't quite yet time for the Eastlink Centre to be flooded with Isles fans as the boys in black and harvest gold get ready to take care of some Maritime business. First up on the weekend schedule is a date with the birds of Centre 200, the Isles will gear up to face the Cape Breton Eagles at 7 pm tonight. Then tomorrow, the Isles look to avoid the antlers when they go moose hunting in Halifax for some matinee action.
So far this season the Islanders and Eagles have only gone head-to-head one time, the match also being over in Cape Breton. That contest saw the Isles scoring seven straight goals before the Eagles were finally able to crack Goobie in the third to at least get on the board twice in the game. It was a big game for a native of PEI too as Eagle rookie Cam Squires recorded his first QMJHL goal against his hometown team. For Charlottetown however, it was Patrick Guay putting on a show in the Centre 200. Guay recorded two goals including a spin-o-rama goal he was able to convert whilst falling to the ice and battling two Eagles defenders.
The goaltending duties will continue to be shared between Oliver Satny and Jacob Goobie as this weekend we will see Satny get the crease this evening in Cape Breton, and Goobie will get the start in his hometown against the Mooseheads on Sunday. The Islanders will also be getting a big body back in the line-up this weekend as Ben Boyd is expected to suit up tonight after missing the previous five games. Boyd currently sits with two goals and an assist on the season. Charlottetown will be without one of their more physical style players as Sam Bowness is currently out with an upper-body injury and unlikely to play this weekend.
For the Eagles, they played Halifax last night in a losing effort. Robert Orr and Halifax went on a roll eventually taking the Eagles out 5-2. Although Ivan Ivan was able to stay hot this season when he potted his tenth of the year to tie the game 2-2 before Halifax inevitably took it over. Ivan Ivan is also currently leading the Eagles in points at seventeen, he sits one ahead of teammate Sean Larochelle who has sixteen. Larochelle favors the playmaking more this year as he has twelve assists to go along with four goals.
Charlottetown currently sits in third place in the QMJHL standings holding a 10-5-1-0 record, they only trail the Shawinigan Cataractes and the Sherbrooke PhÅ"nix by a point. Leading the offensive charge for the Isles thus far has been Xavier Simoneau who has tallied 23 points this campaign. Simoneau has seven goals and sixteen assists to this point, and with his 23 points, he sits in fifth overall in the QMJHL for that category. Patrick Guay is currently only one behind the league lead in goals at eleven, there is a three-way tie atop the category all with twelve goals. Finally, Noah Laaouan is also making a splash early on in his over-age season being locked in a four-way tie for most assists in the league all with sixteen helpers to this point. Also tied in that category with Noah is teammate Simoneau.
Puck drop is set for 7 pm this evening at the Centre 200 where the Islanders look to build off their successful trip in Quebec and keep this road trip going strong.
