OHL Oshawa Generals

Game Preview: New-Look Generals Ready to Take on Division Leading 67s

January 19, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

The Gens are coming off a hard loss on Friday with more rest than they expected. A postponed away game in Owen Sound yesterday gave them more time to reflect and regroup after Friday's loss. They will be ready for action tonight. The 67s are on a tear having won 20 of their last 21 games.

Season Record (Last 10 games):

Oshawa Generals: 21-13-3-2 (4-3-3-0) - 4th in Eastern Conference

Ottawa 67s: 33-7-0-0 (9-1-0-0) - 1st in Eastern Conference

Season Series:

This is the fifth of eight times these teams will meet this season. Ottawa holds a 3-1 season series lead over your Generals.

Game 1 at Ottawa; November 8th, 2019 : 3-2 Oshawa win

Game 2 at Ottawa; November 30th, 2019 : 4-3 Ottawa win

Game 3 at Oshawa; December 20th, 2019 : 5-4 Ottawa win OT

Game 4 at Oshawa; January 1st, 2019: 5-2 Ottawa win

Last Meeting:

The last meeting between these teams was on New Year's Day. Ottawa was in the midst of their 17-game winning streak and that would continue after this game. 67s Joseph Garreffa was named first star of the game recording two goals in five shots on goalie Paputsakis. Serron Noel scored his last point on Generals home ice in what would be his last game at the Tribute Communities Centre - barring a playoff matchup against the Kitchener Rangers this spring.

Players to Watch; Oshawa Generals

Philip Tomasino - Tomasino was held off the scoresheet for his first time as a General in Friday's game, but he wasn't without an impact. The star centreman won 63% of his 19 faceoffs and generated a great deal of offense - being particularly electric on the powerplay. Tomasino's playmaking skills were on display on Friday, he has a way of finding the one hole between skates and sticks to get the puck to a shooting teammate. He is working with an abundance of shooting talent with newly minted OHL-leading-goal scorer, Brett Neumann and sniper Ty Tullio. The OHL's fourth leading point-scorer is just as skilled in shooting the puck as passing. The latest trade deadline heist is a treat to watch.

Kyle MacLean - Captain Kyle returned for his first game since New Year's Day against the Steelheads and was awarded the Hardest Working Player of the game honours. This is not foreign to MacLean, there is a reason he wears the "C" for this team - his workhorse mentality. MacLean has been the engine that drives this team through adversity and the respect for him from ownership to the fans is apparent.

Player to Watch; Ottawa 67s

Jack Quinn - A pure sniper. Quinn has been on a tear since December 1st. He has posted 20 goals and three assists - highlighted by three hat trick games in the month of January. Quinn has a scoring touch that NHL scouts are starting to take notice of, being ranked ninth in the NHL Central Scouting's midterm rankings. Quinn played in the CHL Top Prospects game in Hamilton this past Thursday where he scored a goal and was awarded MVP honours for Team Red. Quinn is guaranteed to pepper a few shots on goal, averaging just over five and a half shots per game since January 1.
