Barber Poles Cap off Perfect Week End with Road Win over Oshawa
January 19, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
Oshawa - The Ottawa 67's extended their newest winning streak to four games on Sunday evening, as they defeated the Oshawa Generals by a score of 5-3, for their third win is just as many days. Adam Varga, Alec Belanger, Mitch Hoelscher (twice) and Jack Quinn were the goal scorers for Ottawa, who strengthen their lead atop of the OHL overall standings with yet another win.
The Barber Poles opened the game's scoring halfway through the opening period, thanks to a shorthanded goal from the speedy Adam Varga, who took advantage of a sweet feed from Cam Tolnai before getting behind a defender and beating Jordan Kooy thanks to a high and precise shot. Newly appointed forward Alec Belanger would make it 2-0 before the end of the period by tipping a point shot on the power play.
Four goals would be scored in a wild second period, as Ty Tullio got things going early with a goal in the opening minute of the frame. Ottawa's Mitch Hoelscher got one back for Ottawa shortly after, his 25th of the season, yet again scored on the power play as special teams were crucial for Ottawa in this win as they have been all year. Allan McShane and Jacob Winterton would score back to back unanswered goals for the hosts, tying things up going into the final period.
The third period was a heated battle between both sides, but it was one of the hottest sticks in the OHL currently that went on and decided the game. Jack Quinn banged a puck in from point blank range for his league-leading 35th of the season, which ended up being the game winning goal. Mitch Hoelscher sealed the deal with fifteen seconds left on the board, scoring in an empty net for his second of the game, making it a final score of 5-3 Ottawa.
This win caps off a perfect three-in-three week end, as the 67's collect their third win is as many days. The Barber Poles will look to keep rolling and extend their current winning streak next week end at home, as they play two games in two days; Saturday the 25th against the Niagara IceDogs and Sunday the 26th against the Saginaw Spirit, both at 2:00 PM inside The Arena at TD Place.
