Game Preview: Georgia Force vs. Dallas Desperados

The 2007 Southern Divison Champion, Georgia Force, will kickoff the 2008 campaign against the Dallas Desperados, and they will do so from their new home venue at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Force announced the move to Gwinnett on September 12, 2007 after spending the previous three seasons at Philips Arena.

Georgia is coming off their most successful regular season in franchise history. The Force finished the 2007 season with a franchisebest 14-2 record, including an undeafeted mark of 8-0 in home contests. Head Coach Doug Plank was awarded AFL Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons for his efforts.

Georgia QB Chris Greisen was the AFL's leading passer in 2007, despite never starting a game prior to the season. After sitting on the bench in Dallas for two seasons, Greisen joined the Force and carved his name into the AFL record books. He completed 392 of 530 passes for 4,851 yards with an AFL all-time high 117 touchdown passes. His quarterback rating of 132.0 and his completion percentage of 74.0 also led the AFL in 2007. One of the League'e most explosive receivers also returns for the Force in 2008. WR Troy Bergeron returned to the AFL in 2007 after spending the ‘06 season with the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons. He set career highs in every statistical category in ‘07. Bergeron hauled in 132 catches for 1,736 yards and 41 touchdowns in 16 games. The Force defense collared a league-high 29 sacks in 2007 and, both DE Jermaine Smith and NT Ernest Allen will return this season.

Dallas finished the 2007 season with an AFL-best 15-1 record. The team returns their All-Arena QB Clint Dolezel and Ironman WR/DB Will Pettis in 2008. Last year, Dolezel completed 375 of 533 passes for 4,475 yards with 107 touchdowns.
