February 25, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- With their season opener rapidly approaching, the Los Angeles Avengers released nine players, placed six on the injured reserve list and signed a former player, bringing their active roster to 22 players, which is two below the Arena Football League's regular-season limit of 24, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

The Avengers will kick off their ninth season in the 22-year-old AFL on Friday, Feb. 29, versus the New Orleans VooDoo at STAPLES Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) and the contest will be broadcast live on AM 1150 KTLK and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes 1330 AM. Twenty of the 22 active players will suit up for the game.

Among the nine players released was wide receiver Rob Turner, who led the Avengers with 105 receptions last season. He was with the Avengers for the past three seasons and scored 24 touchdowns in 2007.

The other eight players released by Los Angeles are: linebacker Jon Apgar, offensive lineman C.J. Blomvall, defensive back Michael Bragg, defensive lineman Michael Cobbins, linebacker Andy Collins, defensive lineman Ola Dagunduro, defensive back Rushen Jones and wide receiver Lauren Williams.

Cobbins and Collins are expected to be signed to the Avenger practice squad.

The six Avengers who will spend at least the first four weeks of the 2008 season on the injured reserve list are: defensive lineman Ernest Hunter, offensive lineman Matt McGhghy, defensive back Arnold Parker, defensive lineman Ryan Riddle, defensive back Kabote Sikyala and wide receiver Terrence Stubbs.

On Monday, the Avengers also welcomed back wide receiver/linebacker Robert Quiroga, who originally joined the franchise at the end of the 2006 season. After catching 21 passes for 235 yards and 11 touchdowns last year for the Avengers, in addition to 49.5 tackles on defense, Quiroga signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Rush. He was released by the Rush on Friday and signed a one-year deal with the Avengers three days later.

Avenger 2008 season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
