Game Preview: Fever and Lynx Looking for First Win of 2022

The Indiana Fever return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse Tuesday night against the Minnesota Lynx for the first of three meetings this season. Indiana has dropped the last six appearances to the Lynx, including the last two as the home team.

For the first time in her WNBA career, Crystal Dangerfield will be on the other side from the team that drafted her with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft. Dangerfield was waived last week by Minnesota after finishing her second WNBA season in 2021 appearing in 31 games while averaging 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 20.1 minutes per game. During her 2020 Rookie-of-the-Year campaign, Dangerfield ranked second among rookies (11th overall) in scoring with a team-high 16.2 points per game and second among rookies in assists with a team-best 3.6 assists per game.

Last time out for the Fever was an 87-77 loss at home on Sunday against the Los Angeles Sparks. Rookie guard Destanni Henderson finished with a career-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting as the former South Carolina Gamecock continues her tremendous WNBA start. Through her first two games of her WNBA career, Henderson is now averaging 11.5 points and 4.0 assists per contest. She also led the Fever with three made 3-point field goals.

As a team, Indiana finished the game shooting 10-of-26 from beyond the arc.

Indiana tied the game three different instances during the second half, including at 64-64 with 6:51 remaining, but a 10-0 run from Los Angeles was too much to overcome in the final moments in the first of three regular season matchups between the Fever and Sparks this season.

Kelsey Mitchell added 15 points to extend her league-leading streak of games scoring at least 10 points to 25. NaLyssa Smith continued her impressive start to the season as well with her second consecutive 13-point game to go along with nine rebounds.

Minnesota comes to Indiana after dropping the first two games of its season as well, including a 78-66 loss against the Washington Mystics on Sunday. Minnesota was outscored by Washington, 23-4, in the second quarter against the Mystics.

The Fever return to action on Friday with an 8 p.m. ET tip at the New York Liberty, which will be streamed LIVE on the official Indiana Fever Facebook page. Indiana returns to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday against the Atlanta Dream at 3 p.m. ET. Tickets for the game can still be purchased by visiting FeverBasketball.com.
