After a hard-fought, scoreless stalemate against the San Jose Earthquakes, Sounders FC (9-4-4, 31 points) returns home for a Cascadia clash against the Portland Timbers (9-5-4, 31 points) at CenturyLink Field (7:30 p.m. PT / FS1, 1090 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). This is an important match for both sides, as the winner will take over sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.
Seattle is currently leading the Western Conference with 31 points, tied with Portland but holding a league-best +18 goal differential. The two sides are red-hot, having both won five of their last eight, with Sounders FC outscoring its opponents 19-8.
