INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks drop the puck on their 10th season tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Allen Americans.

Morning Skate

A Rare Sight: The Mavericks will begin a season at home for just the second time in team history, the previous coming in the 2010-11 campaign. KC emerged with a 5-3 decision on Oct. 15, 2010 over Odessa.

Captain Carzo: Forward Rocco Carzo was named team captain on Wednesday by Mavericks head coach John-Scott Dickson. Carzo is the seventh captain in team history and is in exclusive company as longest-tenured Mavericks, joining Dickson and Sebastien Thinel (four years) and trailing only Andrew Courtney (seven seasons).

Climbing The Mountain: The Mavericks return to the Mountain Division after relocating to the Central in the 2017-18 season. KC enjoyed success against their Mountain counterparts a year ago, finishing the year 18-14-3-1 in what is now the team's own division, a mark that included a 5-3-0 tally against Allen.

We Meet Again: The Mavericks and Americans will clash for the third time in the last week when the puck drops Friday night. The teams squared off in a pair of exhibition contests last weekend in the Lone Star State, the Americans emerging with two victories.

Heat Index: The Mavs begin the 2018-19 season with four affiliated players on their roster, including forward Jordan Ernst, defenseman Willie Raskob and netminders Mason McDonald and Nick Schneider. McDonald begins the season on injured reserve, and Schneider figures to make his first-career ECHL start on Friday.

Who To Watch: An easy answer for followers of the Mavericks - Rocco Carzo. The captain played in just 12 games last year due to an ACL tear but has worked tirelessly to be ready for the 2018 opener.
