OHL Kingston Frontenacs

Game Day Preview: KGN vs OSH

November 21, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release

The Kingston Frontenacs make their first trip to the Motor City tonight for a 6:05 pm affair with the Oshawa Generals from Tribute Communities Centre. In former Fronts head coach Kurtis Foster's (assistant coach Oshawa) return to Kingston, the Generals skated away with a 6-4 win in the first matchup at Leon's Centre.

Winners of two consecutive games, the Frontenacs (9-4-2-0) sit three points up on Oshawa (7-6-1-2) in an East Division seeing only five points separating first from fourth. The Black and Gold will want to erase the two points given up in the November 12 home loss with a heavy division schedule.

Following a CBC nationally televised comeback victory over Mississauga on Nov 13, Kingston enters action tonight off a second emotional game that saw the team win in another comeback. The Fronts erased two one-goal deficits beating the Peterborough Petes 5-3 on Hockey Fights Cancer Night last Friday. A Maddox Callens empty-net goal was preceded by Francesco Arcuri scoring the game-winner with 63 seconds left to seal the win. Jordan Frasca (still wearing a full cage from injury) had four points (2G,2A), and Lucas Edmonds had four assists to pace the Fronts scoring.

Frasca's pair gave the assistant captain 8 points on a four-game goal/point streak (5G,3A). Edmonds remains hot riding a stretch with the team point leader on a six-game point streak with 15 points (4G,11A), sitting fourth in OHL overall-scoring with 28 points going into the game this evening.

Oshawa has lost three straight games since the win over the Frontenacs and will look to rebound from a 4-2 loss to the North Bay Battalion at home on Friday.

After Friday night's win, Frasca said the group were looking forward to another crack at their former mentor. "We want that win big. They beat us last time in our building, so want to try and get back at Fozz," with a smile and wink.

A General Loss

Oshawa's win in Kingston on November 12 didn't come easy for the Generals. After going up 4-0 in the first period on eight shots, the Frontenacs never quit on the game registering the most shots in the third period so far and got within one goal with five minutes remaining. However, Cooper Way scored his first OHL goal late in the third period to seal the Generals 6-4 win. Second-star of the game, Lucas Peric had a pair of goals for Kingston, with Martin Chromiak (1G,1A), Jordan Frasca (1G,1A), and Lucas Edmonds (2A) having multi-point games.

Oshawa leading scorer Ty Tullio was held off the scoresheet in the only game the forward had played this season in the game. The Edmonton Oilers prospect has caught fire again with six points in his last three (2G,4A). Ethan Ritchie was kept at bay as well. One of the early leaders for OHL rookie-of-the-year, and brother of former Fronts defenceman Ethan Ritchie, did not register a point for only the second time in the Generals season.

Maddox Callens took on the Generals much larger Riley Pitt after a hit on a teammate the gritty forward took exception to. The two squared off in a lengthy tilt in a very physical affair.

Strict Policy

The Frontenacs have done a great job playing discipline hockey, called on the least penalty minutes in the conference (152), though head coach Luca Caputi's squad has not stepped back from being a tough team to play against when called upon. Callens and fellow veteran Braden Hache have played a very physical game, with rookie skaters Nathan Poole, Jackson Stewart, Thomas Budnick all adding sandpaper for Caputi's squad.
