Porco's Hat Trick Helps Lead Barrie Colts to 6-2 Win over Niagara IceDogs

Nicholas Porco scored three goals to help lead the Barrie Colts to a 6-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) action Saturday night.

Ryan Del Monte scored the game's first goal at the 9:10 mark of the opening period for a 1-0 Colts lead. His third goal of the season came on the game's first powerplay.

Five minutes later, Artur Cholach scored his first OHL career goal doubling the Colts lead to 2-0.

Porco scored on the Colts second powerplay of the game with just seven seconds left in the first to make it 3-0. It was his fifth goal of the season.

The IceDogs got one goal back midway through the second period before the Colts responded with two more.

Oskar Olausson scored the Colts third powerplay goal of the game with just over six minutes left in the period. It was Olausson's 11th of the year.

Porco scored his second goal of the game at the 18:09 mark, giving the Colts a 5-1 lead heading into the third period.

The IceDogs scored in the third to cut the lead to 5-2, but Porco scored his hat trick goal into an empty net to seal the victory.

Nathan Allensen added three helpers while both Ethan Cardwell and Hunter Haight had two assists. Evan Vierling, Brandt Clarke and Beau Akey each had one assist.

Mack Guzda stopped 23-of-25 shots in his debut with the Colts after being acquired by the club on Friday. The Colts went a perfect three-for-three on the powerplay.

The Colts play next on Thursday when they welcome the Owen Sound Attack to Sadlon Arena in Barrie. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
