The lone goal in the first period came on a shot from the point by Jackals defenseman Bobby Gates that beat Brenden Cuthbert high to the glove side. The Jackals got off to a fast start in the second period, getting goals from Chris Mann and Jarrett Konkle to take a 3-0 lead. The River Otters finally broke through towards the end of the second period when Brad MacMillan deflected a Mark Odut shot behind Boucher. Most Recent Meeting: Saturday, February 18: Missouri 3, Quad City 2(Shootout) Lonnie Loach scored the shootout game-winner and Brenden Cuthbert stopped all five Mallards shooters as the Missouri River Otters defeated Quad City 3-2 last Saturday night at the MARK.
The Mallards struck first six minutes into the opening period when Chad Woollard rifled a deadly accurate wrister above the outstretched glove of Cuthbert. The River Otters battled back and tied the game when Jimmy Callahan took a tremendous pass from Jim Duhart and buried a shot behind Jason Tapp.
Missouri took a shot-lived second period lead when Brad MacMillan skated up the right wing and fired a low shot between Tapp's pads for his third goal of the season. Quad City tied the score two minutes later when Glenn Detulleo beat Cuthbert with a top-shelf wrister.
Neither team scored in the final period and the game went tied at two into the shootout. Cuthbert stoned all five Mallards shooters and Loach blasted a shot through Tapp's five-hole for the lone goal and the River Otters emerged victorious 3-2. Cuthbert made 30 saves in the victory while Tapp made 18 saves in defeat.
Duhart Excels Versus Mallards: No River Otter has scored more points against Quad City this season than Jim Duhart. The veteran sniper has scored two goals and added six assists for eight points in a mere five games against the Mallards this season.
Playing Shorthanded: The River Otters will be playing today's game with only 12 skaters, as Ben White is serving the second game of a four-game league suspension, J.P. Beilsten has the flu, and Frank Littlejohn, Brian Heckendorn, Tim Krueckl, and Matt Suderman are all out with injuries.
Woolly Mammoth: Mallards winger Chad Woollard has been a beast of burden against the River Otters this season with four goals and three assists in seven games. He leads Quad City with 29 goals on the season.
