Richmond RiverDogs News Release
RICHMOND, VA - Rod "The Rocket" Taylor scored a pair of goals, great goaltending from Mike D'Alessandro and a four goal run, paved the way for a 4-1 victory over the Roanoke Valley Vipers in front of 7,143 at the Richmond Coliseum. The victory snapped the RiverDogs two game losing streak and moved the team back into 8th place in the overall standings in the UHL with a record of 26-23-5, one point ahead of the Quad City Mallards. Quad City lost tonight to the Rockford IceHogs 3-1 in Rockford.
Taylor, a former member of the ECHL Richmond Renegades and Hampton Roads Admirals, got the game's first goal at 2:57 of the first period. Joey Bastien, who is on an 11 game point scoring streak, scored a power play goal at 7:18. "The Rocket" delighted the crowd again in the 2nd period as he connected for an unassisted goal at 10:56. A slapper from Bobby Kukulka in the 3rd period gave the RiverDogs a 4-0 lead. Mike D'Alessandro's shutout bid was spoiled near the midway point of the 3rd period as Mark Miller scored on the power play. For the evening, D'Alessandro stopped 36 of 37, most from point-blank range and several outstanding saves. Mike Oliveira's point scoring streak continues, now at 22 when he assisted on Bastien's power play goal.
The RiverDogs travel to Glen Falls, NY to do battle with the Adirondack Frostbite late tomorrow afternoon to begin a six game road trip. The next RiverDogs game at the Richmond Coliseum is Wednesday, March 22nd, when they play host to Roanoke Valley at 7:05 pm.
