Back To Work

After a week of waiting to see who their round two opponent would be, the Winterhawks got the news on Monday of an impending date with the Thunderbirds. Since then, they have spent this week prepping for what promises to be a tough-checking, high-octane series between two talented rivals.

The time off should do the Hawks some good - players who picked up injuries in round one had time to heal and recover and the coaching staff had time to hammer home some key tactics - but at the same time, there is no time for a "feeling out" process in tonight's tilt. Head Coach Mike Johnston and his staff will certainly have been pushing the pace in practice this week to help the team maintain that playoff intensity ahead of Game 1.

Familiar Foe

These two teams won't have to spend too much time in the video room prepping for this series. Having seen each other 13 times this year - more matchups than any other pair of teams - and nine times since Christmas, there's not much these two clubs won't know about one another. Portland will be hoping to keep the ball rolling having won eight of those nine contests since the holiday, but Seattle will hope a healthy lineup helps it right the ship a bit.

Look for plenty of physicality off the bat in this one as both teams seek the upper hand early.
