The Rematch

The Cougars took the extra point on Monday but only after 65 scoreless minutes and seven rounds of a shootout that saw both teams trade chance after chance and both netminders turn aside almost everything in sight. It was a playoff-like battle that befitted two teams that could meet in the upcoming postseason.

"It was a playoff feel out there. Coming down the final stretch of the season, every single point is important. The performance from Dante was exactly what we needed...it was too bad we couldn't help him out tonight, so we all owe him one for sure," said Gabe Klassen.

As the Winterhawks and Cougars wrap up the season series tonight, expect more of the same tight-checking intensity we saw yesterday.

Halfway Home

After last night's game, the Hawks are halfway through the main portion of their current road swing. It's a run of seven straight away games, but the team will return to Portland following the sixth of those in Seattle this Saturday before returning to Everett the following Friday. The Winterhawks may be a bit road-weary after two weeks in central Canada to start 2023 and now another two weeks throughout the PNW and B.C., but tonight marks their final regular-season game north of the border and the team can enjoy six home games in March heading into playoff action.

Special Teams Tussle

Yesterday's 0-0 bout wasn't without its scoring chances, but both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play - no small feat considering both teams rank inside the top 10 in power-play efficiency in the WHL. The goalies were fantastic, but both teams likely have a few chances they'd like back. In tonight's rematch, an early goal would go a long way toward expelling any frustrations from yesterday, and each team is likely to lean on the man-advantage units to get that done when there isn't much room at 5-on-5.
