New Digs

After two meetings in the VMC in the past three weeks, the season series between the Winterhawks and Chiefs shifts north for round three. The Hawks have fared well at the other Veterans Memorial arena, going 10-5-0 over the last five years in Spokane.

Spokane got the better of Portland in the clubs' first meeting on Nov. 26, but the Hawks responded with an 8-5 romp last Friday to kick off their current winning streak. To keep it going into the holiday break, they'll have to knock off the Chiefs tonight and tomorrow back in Portland.

First-Half Finish

A home-and-home against the Chiefs is all that stands between the Hawks and a very successful first "half" of the season - the actual halfway point comes after game #34 on Dec. 28, but the holiday break traditionally marks the midway of the regular season. Through 30 games, the Hawks own the top point percentage in the U.S. Division and have beaten all but one team in the Western Conference. Gabe Klassen ranks third in league scoring with 54 points - one off of the league lead - while James Stefan and Josh Davies rank tied for seventh in WHL goals with 21 apiece on the year.

The Hawks have established themselves as a team with championship aspirations and will be keen to head into the holidays on a high note - look for a high compete level both tonight and tomorrow as they try to finish the first half strong. Oh, and not for nothin', but the last time the Winterhawks went into the holiday break with a road game in Spokane, they pulled off something pretty special...

Historic Hawks

Wednesday's win over Wenatchee featured a double milestone goal as James Stefan earned his 200th WHL point with an assist on Gabe Klassen's 100th WHL goal! Klassen became just the 27th Winterhawk to hit 100 career goals, and the first do it since Joachim Blichfeld in the 2018-19 campaign.

Looking ahead, Kyle Chyzowski remains just two points shy of 100 in his impressive career as he seeks to become the seventh current Winterhawk to reach that benchmark.
