Playoff Preview?
Keep an eye on this matchup - with two weeks to go before the end of the regular season, the Winterhawks seem to be settling into the Western Conference's third seed with a healthy gap to the Thunderbirds in fourth. Meanwhile, Vancouver finds itself in a battle for the #6 seed, but holds a leg up on the competition with a few games in hand over Victoria, Prince George and Spokane. This one could shape up to be quite the first-round series in the WHL Playoffs.
Potential postseason duel aside, Vancouver also remains the only team in the Western Conference that Portland has been unable to defeat this year, making a win tonight that much more meaningful for the Hawks.
Back to B.C.
Tonight kicks off the final road trip of the regular season for the Winterhawks! The team loaded up the bus yesterday to arrive in Langley for a good night of rest ahead of what will be six days on the road. After tonight's tilt, it's off to Kamloops for a Saturday night date with the Blazers to wrap up the club's last trip to Canada before the playoffs. Then, the club heads down to Kennewick ahead of Tuesday's tilt against the Americans before returning to the Rose City to prepare for the regular-season closer on Friday against Everett.
The clock's ticking on the 2021-22 slate, and there's just a handful of tune-ups left before we play for it all in the postseason!
Streakin'
Two Winterhawks put their four-game point streaks on the line tonight in Gabe Klassen (4G, 4A) and Clay Hanus (3G, 2A). That duo has scorched opponents as of late, joining Jaydon Dureau (4G) and Cross Hanas (1G, 3A) with particularly noticeable performances last weekend.
Look for the Hawks' big guns to keep firing as they look for their first win over Vancouver this year.
