'Every Game Still Matters': Warriors Set Sights on Clinching Home Ice Advantage
April 8, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
With four games to go in the regular season, the Moose Jaw Warriors control their own destiny.
Moose Jaw sits one point ahead of the Saskatoon Blades for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with two games in hand in the battle for home ice advantage in the first round of the 2022 WHL Playoffs.
"It's nice knowing that we have a little advantage on them, but every game still matters," Warriors goalie Carl Tetachuk said. "We just have to go into every game knowing that we still have something to play for."
The Warriors will travel to Brandon on Saturday to open up the final stretch of the regular season.
Warriors forward Brayden Yager said the team is focused on locking up home ice.
"It's an unbelievable rink here and our fans are unbelievable, so it'd be huge for us," he said.
The Warriors will be treating the final four games like playoff games as they look to head into the post-season on a high note.
"Every game is like a playoff game for us," Tetachuk said. "We just got to go into every game thinking it's going to be a grind for the playoffs."
Moose Jaw is coming off a thrilling 3-1 win over the league's best team, the Winnipeg ICE. Yager said the Warriors will be focused on building off their performance in that game.
"We've had a week off, we've been practicing hard, so just keep building off it," he said.
"We've done a good job of balancing our rest and our hard work. Our staff is doing a really good job of balancing it out and it's going to work out really well for us."
Tetachuk hasn't had an opportunity to suit up in the playoffs since his rookie season in the WHL.
He said he's ready to play playoff hockey again.
"I've got to be locked in every game, every shot matters, so I've got to put my mind to every shot," Tetachuk said.
Tetachuk said the Warriors are doing a good job of staying sharp heading down the stretch.
"It's just trying not to get our bad habits back," he said. "We've improved a lot from the beginning of the year, so we just got to stick with our game."
The Warriors and Wheat Kings face-off on Saturday night in Brandon.
Moose Jaw will be back in Brandon on Tuesday before travelling to Lethbridge next Friday and then finishing the regular season with a Trans-Canada Clash against the Pats in Regina next Sunday.
Playoff ticket packages are on sale now at mjwarriors.ca, the Warriors' office and the Mosaic Place Box Office.
