Oshawa Generals News Release

Tonight, the Oshawa Generals play host to the Mississauga Steelheads in this mid-week matchup. This is the third meeting of the season between the Eastern Conference opponents and with the season series tied 1-1 the Generals will be looking for the series advantage along with a valuable two points.

With under ten games remaining in the regular season, the race to the playoffs is officially on. Both the Generals and Steelheads are among the mix of teams aiming to collect points to improve their position in the Eastern Conference standings. The Gens currently hold the 5th spot whereas the Steelheads sit in 8th with only four points separating the two clubs and only six points between the eighth and fourth positions in the conference. Mississauga has a 4-0-1-0 record in their last five games while Oshawa has a 4-1-0-0 record. The two teams have not played since late November when Cole Ceci earned his first career shutout in a 6-0 home team win. The Gennies will try to continue to use home ice to their advantage where their powerplay has been red-hot as of late. In their last four home games, Oshawa has gone 11-for-21 (52%) with the man advantage and now ranks 9th in league standings for their powerplay percentage at home. The Generals offence may be in for a challenge as the Steelheads' Emanuel Vella has recorded two shutouts in his last four games posting a 0.901 save percentage. Should Vella get the start, the Generals will rely on players such as Jack Studnicka, Kenny Huether and Danil Antropov who have seven or more points in their last six games to help spark the offence.

Tonight's game is a tie into Rivalry Week between the Henry Street Hawks and the Anderson Raiders. Watch for various activities throughout the night that will pit the two schools against each other as they strive to show their school spirit.
