SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters broke through for a 5-3 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The offense slugged out four runs in the fifth inning to help the team improve to 13-21 in the second half and 49-55 overall.
Sean Gallagher earned his second victory of the season with perhaps his best outing for Sugar Land. The former big leaguer went 6.0 innings, scattering two hits and four walks while striking out four to earn the win.
Much like the night before, the Skeeters offense came alive in the fifth inning to claim an advantage in the middle goings. Sugar Land manufactured a two-out rally, sparked by a walk to Jeff Dominguez with two outs. After stealing second, Travis Scott drew a walk as well before Delwyn Young broke the scoring seal with an RBI single to plate Dominguez. Chris Wallace launched his team-leading 14th-home run of the season to increase the margin to 4-0.
Unlike the night before, however, Skeeters pitching was able to maintain the lead before the offense inflated the cushion to 5-0 in the top of the seventh. Denny Almonte doubled to lead off the inning and came in to score on a one-out double by Scott.
Lancaster mustered a rally of its own in the bottom of the inning against reliever Ramon Delgado. Yusuke Kajimoto drew a one-out walk before a two-out double by Zach Collier put a pair in scoring position for the Barnstormers. Anderson Feliz followed with a three-run home run of his own to trim the gap to 5-3 and chase Delgado from the game.
Adrian Martin, Dan Runzler and Tim Gustafson combined to keep Lancaster off the scoreboard for the final 2.1 innings to secure the 5-3 win. Gustafson earned his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
