Galaxy to Help on New Film
Published on October 25, 2002 under Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
WHO: Director David Anspaugh and screenwriter Angelo Pizzo (the creative team behind the hit films Hoosiers and Rudy); technical consultant for production company Crusader Entertainment on Game of Their Lives Eric Wynalda (all-time leading scorer for the U.S. National team and a top-scoring World Cup player); 2002 MLS Cup Champion LA Galaxy team members, including Midfielder and U.S. National team player, Cobi Jones....and scores of athletic acting hopefuls.
WHAT: Director David Anspaugh, with help from the talented team listed above, is looking for the primary characters in the upcoming Crusader Entertainment film, Game of Their Lives. The film is based on Geoffrey Douglas' eponymous novel about the real-life American soccer team, a hastily-assembled band of amateur and semi-pro player composed chiefly of working-class immigrants, who pulled off one of the sporting world's most stunning upsets--defeating the powerhouse English team in the 1950's World Cup. Filming begins in the Spring of 2003.
Anspaugh and the creative team want the actors playing the 11 members of the U.S. team (and one actor playing the star of the English team) to be highly-skilled soccer players. So, with the help of Eric Wynalda, and members of the L.A. Galaxy players and coaching staff, they are holding genuine soccer tryouts. The filmmakers will do the same in five other major American cities (New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, St. Louis and Denver), with the help of local pro teams, during the month of November.
WHEN: Tuesday, October 29 / 10:30 a.m. for press coverage & Studio City Recreation Center WHERE 12621 Rye St. (2 blks W of Whittset, 1 blk N of Moorpark)
Those members of the press ambitious enough to "tryout" as part of their coverage, are encouraged to do so! Contact: Catherine Olim/Heidi Schaeffer/PMK-HBH-LA 310-289-6200.
