Gov. Gray Davis to Join Celebration

PASADENA, CA (Friday, October 25, 2002) - The 2002 MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy will host a victory celebration at 12:00 PM in Staples Center on Saturday, October 26, 2002. The newly crowned MLS champions led by Galaxy Captain Cobi Jones and MLS Cup MVP Carlos Ruiz and the rest of the team will be on hand for the free victory celebration. Doors will open for fans beginning at 11:00 a.m.

MLS Honda MVP Carlos Ruiz netted a golden goal in sudden death overtime as the Los Angeles Galaxy captured its first MLS Cup championship with a dramatic 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium this past Sunday. The championship for the Galaxy came in their fourth appearance in the title game and in front of a MLS Cup-record crowd of 61,316 fans at the event.
