Galaxy Establishes Partnership

PASADENA, CA (Tuesday, June 11, 2002) - The Los Angeles Galaxy Major League Soccer (MLS) club announced today a partnership with the Orange County Blue Star, which will field a Premier Development League (PDL) squad during the 2002 season, to be named the Galaxy Reserves. The fourth such venture for an MLS team (Chicago Fire Reserves, MetroStars Black and Boulder Rapids Reserves), the Galaxy Reserves will identify and develop Southern California's young soccer talent.

"We are committed to the development of the Southern California soccer player," said Galaxy VP/GM Doug Hamilton. "This is the first step of many towards creating a professional soccer environment, and future benefits and efforts will take shape with our move to the National Training Center."

The Galaxy Reserves, owned and operated by Pac Sports Group, will play the majority of their matches at the Santa Ana Bowl and train at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast, CA.

L.A. Galaxy Head Coach and Vice President of Soccer Operations Sigi Schmid will oversee the program, while Nick Theslof, who led the Orange County Blue Star to the Southwest Division's PDL Championship in 2001, will be the Head Coach for the Galaxy Reserve squad.

The Galaxy Reserves will compete in the Western Conference's Southwest Division for the upcoming 2002 PDL season against the Chico Rooks, Los Angeles Heroes, Central Coast Roadrunners, Southern California Seahorses and the South Bay Sharks. The club's next match is against the Central Coast Roadrunners on Sunday, June 16, at 4:00 p.m. at the Sage Hill School.
