Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO, IL - (Monday, June 10, 2002) - Chicago Fire General Manager Peter Wilt today announced that Senior Director of Marketing and Broadcasting Steve Pastorino has been promoted to Assistant General Manager of the team. With the promotion, Pastorino, the 1998 and 2001 MLS Executive of the Year, becomes the first Assistant General Manager in team history.
In his new role, Pastorino, who currently oversees the Fire's marketing, broadcast, sponsorship and promotion departments, will assist Wilt in the management of the Fire's overall budget as well as the team's roster and salary budget.
"This is a well-earned promotion," said Wilt. "Steve has served as my right hand since the team's inception and has been an important part of the organization's many successes. His previous experience as a general manager in baseball's California League and his successful years marketing the Fire make him very qualified for this position."
Pastorino, 32, joined the Fire in September 1997 as the team's Director of Marketing. Under his guidance, the Fire has established partnerships with some of Chicago's most influential companies, such as LaSalle Bank, UnitedHealthcare, McDonalds and PrimeCo. He was named the MLS Marketing Executive of the Year in 1998, during the team's inaugural season and was bestowed with the same honors again last season after taking the organization to unprecedented heights in the broadcasting and marketing sectors, and for the launching the team's first-ever Hispanic Marketing Department.
"To participate in the growth of the Fire in Chicagoland has been extremely fulfilling for me, personally and professionally," said Pastorino. "Every year has brought about new experiences and challenges. I look forward to working with Peter as the Fire continues to develop on and off the field."
Prior to joining the Fire, Pastorino was general manager of baseball's Class-A High Desert Mavericks. He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Journalism. Born in Venezuela, he developed his soccer interest while living in Colombia, Mexico and Portugal. He and his wife Teri reside in Aurora, IL.
