CARSON, CA (Tuesday, March 01, 2005) - The Los Angeles Galaxy have acquired an allocation from C.D. Chivas USA, the club announced today. In exchange, the Galaxy traded their rights to midfielders Antonio Martinez and Jesus Ochoa to Chivas USA. Martinez and Ochoa recently completed brief trails with the Galaxy hoping to catch the eye of head coach Steve Sampson and his technical staff before the club's preseason trip to Hawaii.
"On behalf of the club, we wish Antonio and Jesus well and wish them the best as they look to continue their careers in MLS," said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "This is a move that provides a critical asset to our club as we continue to build our team for the 2005 MLS season and beyond."
In four MLS seasons, Martinez has appeared in 72 games with eight goals and 23 assists for FC Dallas (formerly the Dallas Burn) from 2000-03 and the Galaxy in 2003. The Galaxy originally acquired Martinez from the along with defender Paul Broome in exchange for midfielder Gavin Glinton and defender Ezra Hendrickson. With Los Angeles, he played 212 minutes in 10 games, earning one assist. Since leaving the Galaxy at the end of 2003, Martinez has been playing in Spain and Mexico.
The L.A. Galaxy signed Jesus Ochoa as a Developmental Player on March 22, 2002. In two seasons with the L.A. Galaxy, Ochoa played in 19 games, making 11 starts and registering 923 minutes on the field. He earned his first career point in 2002, assisting on Winston Griffiths' goal on May 25 against the New England Revolution. Most recently, Ochoa has been playing in Mexico.
The Los Angeles Galaxy are pleased to once again offer fans "The Best Seats in the House" at The Home Depot Center.
