'Gades Set to Battle Generals

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Fifth of eight meetings and the third of four here. ‘Gades are 2-1-1 vs. the Generals, 1-1 at home. Jon Zion has four points vs. the Generals. Chris Bell has five vs. the ‘Gades. Greensboro is 14-4-1 in their last 19 games. The ‘Gades have 39 points. They are in a fourth place tie in the Northeast Division with Trenton, three points behind Roanoke. Greensboro has 48 points. They are second in the Northeast, one point back of Atlantic City.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Gades lost 4-3 in a shootout at Charlotte last night. Richmond twice rallied to tie the game with power play goals. Brad Church scored early in the third to put the ‘Gades in front. The Checkers tied the game after pulling the goalie with :39 to play and won in the shootout. The Generals drilled Reading 5-1 last night at home. Matt Chandler notched a natural hat trick. Greeensboro shattered a scoreless tie with three goals in the second period. The clubs combined for 89 shots on goal. Generals goalie Jamie Hodson made 48 saves.

‘GADES NOTES: The ‘Gades went unbeaten in regulation on a three game road trip (1-0-2). Richmond has lost three in a row at home after winning 12 of their first 14. The ‘Gades have lost three straight overtime decisions, all in shootouts, after winning their first seven overtime games. The ‘Gades play the second of three games in three nights in three cities tonight. Richmond is in a stretch of eight games in 10 days. The ‘Gades have had a full bench (16 skaters) available for only two of their last 12 games due to injuries, call-ups, and ECHL suspensions. Richmond entered the new year number one in the ECHL in fewest shots on goal allowed, but they have given up 78 in their last two games. The ‘Gades have two players away on AHL call-ups: Jon Zion (Cincinnati) and Jayme Filipowicz (St. John). Five different ‘Gades have earned AHL call-ups this season. Three ‘Gades were picked to play for the Northern Conference in the ECHL All Star Game January 21: Jamie Herrington, Dan Lombard, and Zion. Lars Pettersen has points in four straight games. Peter Hogan's three game scoring streak ended last night. The ‘Gades still lead the ECHL in fewest shots on goal allowed (29.5). Richmond is tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals (9). Richmond is third in the league in penalty killing (85.7%). The ‘Gades have killed off 15 straight opposing power plays. Richmond hits the halfway mark of the season following tonight's game.

GENERALS NOTES: A Greensboro win tonight would equal their win total (23) of last season. They have already surpassed last season's home win total. Greesnboro is playing their third game in three nights. The Generals are in a stretch of 10 of 12 games at home. Greensboro is fifth in the league in goals against average (2.80). The Generals are second in shots on goal (34.7) and power play (23.4%). Greensboro is seventh in penalty killing (84.5%). Goalie Jamie Hodson played for Team Canada at the recent Spengler Cup and helped the Canadians to the championship.
