G-Reds Drop First Two Games in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Johnson City Cardinals (20-17) defeated the Greeneville Reds (16-21) 5-2 Saturday night at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. The win for the Cardinals clinched the season series over the Reds.

Cristian Olivo extended the second inning with a two out double off RHP Jake Sommers, and scored the first run on Justin Gomez's RBI-double.

Tyler Callihan doubled with one out in the fourth, and scored on Raul Juarez's RBI-single to extend the lead to 2-0.

After four scoreless innings from RHP Jake Gilbert, RHP Dan Serreino retired the first four Cardinals he faced. Zach Jack- son drew a one out walk off Serreino in the sixth, and went first to third on Chandler Redmond's single. With Liam Sabino at the plate, Redmond got into a run down between first and second. As Callihan tagged Redmond heading back to first, Jack- son took off for the plate and scored Johnson City's first run. Sabino followed with a game tying solo home run to right field.

Kevin Vargas led off the seventh with a double off LHP Jose Zorrilla (L, 0-1). Vargas moved to third on a wild pitch, and Diomedes Del Rio walked with no one out. With Ben Baird at the plate, Del Rio stole second. Vargas scored on the play on Callihan's throwing error. Del Rio scored on Trejyn Fletcher's RBI-double to extend Johnson City's lead to 4-2. Fletcher stole third, and scored on a ground out to round out the scoring.

LHP Enrique Perez (W, 1-1) earned the win in relief. He walked one, and allowed a hit in a scoreless inning. Zorrilla took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning. RHP Hector Soto (S, 1) struck out four over two scoreless innings for his first save.

Greeneville and Johnson City conclude their season series Sunday afternoon, with first pitch from TVA Credit Union Ballpark coming at 5 PM. RHP Juan Abril (1-3, 4.67) will start for the Reds against RHP Jose Moreno (2-3, 10.16).
