Kingsport, TN - The Kingsport Mets were able to even the Big Apple-achian Rivalry Series at one win apiece with a 3-2 victory over the Pulaski Yankees on Friday evening.
The Mets offense was stymied for most of the evening, collecting just five hits, but they made the most of them.
After Pulaski took a 1-0 lead in the sixth, the Mets answered with a leadoff single by Kennie Taylor to break up a Pulaski no-hit bid. Three batters later, Andres Regnault evened the score with an RBI-single to left, tying the game at one.
The Yankees answered in the seventh with a two-out RBI-single by Chad Bell, but Kingsport's Scott Ota would single in Cristopher Pujols to even the score again.
Finally, in the eighth the K-Mets would take the lead for good as Taylor again singled to lead off the frame and would later score on a Regnault sac fly.
Josh Hejka would close the door with a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning, earning his second save of the season and locking up a win for Jefferson Escorcha who improved to 5-0.
Junior Santos threw three scoreless innings for Kingsport, scattering five hits while striking out two. Nixon Silva threw a pair of scoreless frames himself in relief.
The rubber match of the series is tomorrow afternoon, with a 4:00 PM first pitch.
