Future Rangers Fall Short in 8-2 Loss to Future Padres

July 16, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -The Indians went to their deck of cards and sent out an ace to try and stop their recent losing skid. Unfortunately for Spokane, the Emeralds' offense played a full house, roughing up starter Abel De Los Santos (3-3) on their way to an 8-2 win over the Indians in front of 3,709 fans at Avista Stadium for Future Texas Rangers Night presented by City Auto Body, ESPN 700, and ESPN 1080.

De Los Santos entered the game with the fifth best ERA in the Northwest League at 2.05, but that sterling mark took a wallop as he allowed six hits and four runs in just four innings pitched. The young right-hander had allowed just two earned runs in his previous three starts at Avista Stadium.

Starting opposite De Los Santos for the Emeralds was Justin Hancock (3-1), who limited the Indians sputtering offense to no runs in 5.1 innings while striking out six. As a team, Eugene held Spokane's lineup to just eight runs in their five game sweep.

The much-maligned Indians offense was silent until the ninth inning of Sunday night's game, scoring a pair of runs on a hit from Patrick Cantwell after Guy Edmonds doubled and Christopher Garia reached on an error. Cantwell finished the night 2-4, and now has nine hits over his last four games.

Spokane players wore special edition Texas Rangers jerseys which will be up for bidding over the next week to benefit the Special Olympics of Eastern Washington. For more information about the auction, visit spokaneindians.com.

Tomorrow's game is the first game of a three game series against the Tri-City Dust Devils and is Brown Bag Giveaway presented by Value Village, KISS 98.1, and 590 KQNT.
