Fury FC Visit Pittsburgh Riverhounds in Season Finale
October 13, 2017 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA-GATINEAU - Ottawa Fury FC will close out their debut season in the USL Saturday night in Pittsburgh. While their 2017 campaign that began on April 1 did not meet expectation, the club will visit the Riverhounds filled with confidence following their dominant 4-0 victory over FC Cincinnati on Sunday in their most complete performance of the season that left many with a taste of what could have been.
After going more than half the season without a goal, Carl Haworth finally dethroned the monkey that was firmly perched on his back. Not only did Haworth end his goalless drought, but scored a pair seven minutes apart to help pace Fury to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Callum Irving and company also claimed their first shutout since July 29.
So much has changed since Ottawa and Pittsburgh last met on May 13 at TD Place when the Riverhounds became one of just two clubs to hand Ottawa a home defeat claiming a 1-0 win. While Ottawa might have just won for the first time since August 12, they have just one loss in their last nine contests (1W-7D-1L). Pittsburgh, on the other hand, have struggled since going unbeaten in the month of August which restored their chase for the playoffs. The Riverhounds are winless in their last six contests (0W-2D-4L) and have lost three straight.
Fury FC will be without the services of Kyle Venter who will serve his suspension following a red card in last Sunday's match. Andrae Campbell will also miss the season finale after picking up his fifth yellow card against Cincinnati resulting in a one-match ban.
While Fury FC will miss the playoffs in their inaugural USL campaign the club has put together the second-best record in their four-year existence and had their best season at the box office eclipsing the 100,000 mark for attendance for the first time in club history.
GM and Head Coach, Julian de Guzman:
"This game is just as important our game against Cincinnati. We want to translate this winning mentality on the road which is something that we've struggled with all season. Winning at home creates that right mindset. I want to win this game and our line-up will reflect that." "The first nine games we went with three in the back and we've more to four in the back for the last two games and had success. We've moved between those two systems for most of the season and it is all about finding the right balance which the 4-4-2 system is for us right now."
