Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced Wednesday the signing of former IceHogs defenseman and six-year AHL veteran Zach Miskovic. The Fuel also announced Wednesday that they have acquired the rights to center Alex Lavoie from the Atlanta Gladiators in exchange for future considerations.
Miskovic, 30, served as an alternate captain for Indy's AHL affiliate in 2014-15 logging eight points (2g, 6a), a plus-4 rating and 40 penalty minutes over 42 contests. Since making his professional debut in 2009, the 6-foot, 183-pound blueliner has accrued 79 points (22g, 59a) in 280 career AHL games with Rockford, the Iowa Wild, San Antonio Rampage, Chicago Wolves and Hershey Bears. A four-year product of St. Lawrence University, Miskovic won the 2010 Calder Cup with Hershey his rookie season.
In addition to his on-ice performance for the IceHogs last season, the native of River Forest, Ill. was recognized for his service away from the rink, winning the team's 2014-15 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award for his contributions around the Rockford community.
"Zach is a tremendous leader and will add to the overhaul of our blue line for the 2015-16 season," said Fuel Head Coach and EVP of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman. "With only one returning defenseman [Anders Franzon] we knew we had a lot of work to do. We set the goal at the end of last season to strengthen and add more experience to our back end, and with the likes of Quick, Pszenyczny and now Miskovic we believe we have added the necessary components to compete this season."
Lavoie, 22, is coming off an outstanding first season in the ECHL as a member of the Florida Everblades, where he ranked fourth in team scoring with 57 points (21g, 36a) in 67 games played. Prior to last season, the right-handed center was a part of two CHL championships with the Allen Americans, in 2013 and 2014. In 2013-14, Lavoie led the Americans in assists and total points, notching 76 points (25g, 51a) in 60 games played.
The 5-foot-11, 181 native of Anjou, Quebec played parts of five seasons in the QMJHL, amassing 244 points (98g, 146a) in 277 career games. Lavoie appeared in seven AHL games while on loan to the Oklahoma City Barons in 2013-14, picking up a goal.
"Alex is a tremendously skilled centerman and he plays the game with good pace," Hillman explained. "He is a gifted puck distributor and we believe he will be a great addition to the Indy Fuel front line."
In 2015-16, the Indy Fuel drop the puck on their second season in the ECHL.
