Adirondack Frostbite News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY -- Blue Bennefield's power-play goal with 4:44 to go in the third period lifted the Adirondack Frostbite to a 5-4 win over the Elmira Jackals on Sunday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Bennefield was at the hash mark of the right-wing circle, and redirected Kevin Watters' pass into the net for the game-winner. The assist was Watters' third helper of the night.

Elmira had a chance to tie the game late, as the Jackals received a power play with 2:14 remaining. The Jackals pulled goaltender Nick Boucher to create a 6-on-4 advantage, but the Frostbite were able to kill off the penalty to pick up the win.

Kevin Cooper gave Elmira a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the second period, beating Derek Gustafson with a quick wrist shot. It marked the eighth consecutive game in which Adirondack has surrendered the first goal of the game.

The Frostbite took a 2-1 lead, scoring two goals just 51 seconds apart. Hugo Belanger tied the game at 3:28, as he slid a shot past Boucher on the far post for his ninth goal of the season.

Sylvain Cloutier scored a power-play goal at 4:19, taking a perfect cross-ice pass from Kevin Watters and blasting a shot past Boucher for his seventh goal of the year.

Adirondack made it 3-1 1:13 into the third as Ryan Bennett tipped a Belanger shot from the blue line past Boucher for his first goal of the season.

Cooper countered with his second of the night, scoring a power-play goal off of a goal-mouth scramble at 4:17 to cut the Frostbite lead to one.

A great individual effort by Mark Hurtubise restored the Frostbite lead at 6:45. Hurtubise knocked down a Jackals' shot just inside the Frostbite zone and gathered in the loose puck in the neutral zone. Hurtubise then made a spectacular move to get around John Donnelly in the right-wing circle of the Elmira zone, and beat Boucher on the far post for his fifth goal of the season.

But, the Jackals did not go quietly, and they came back to the game on goals by Justin Laverdiere at 10:06 and Jarrett Konkle at 13:07.

Gustafson turned aside 26 Elmira shots to pick up his seventh win of the season.

Adirondack heads on the road on Wednesday to take on the Richmond RiverDogs at 7:05 p.m. Catch all of the action on WCKM 98.5, starting with the pre-game show at 6:45.

The Frostbite return home on Saturday, hosting the Roanoke Valley Vipers at 7:35 p.m. Tickets are available at the Glens Falls Civic Center Box Office, or by calling (518) 798-0202.
