Rockford, Ill.- Facing their first losing streak of the season, the Rockford IceHogs topped the Quad City Mallards 5-3 on Sunday at the Rockford MetroCentre in front of 3,047. Hogs forwards Yannick Tifu and Olivier Proulx helped propel the Hogs with a pair of tallies midway through the first period and another in the second.

The Mallards were first to score when Evgeny Lazarev fired a rebound past Ronnie Vogel on the power play 2:20 into the first period. Rockford responded with a power play goal of their own after Jason Notermann's shot deflected off of Quad City goalie Jason Tapp and in at 5:01.

Later in the first period, Proulx netted his first of two tallies on the afternoon with a shorthanded breakaway at 8:16. Then, at 11:48, Proulx batted a Tifu rebound out of mid-air past Tapp for a 3-1 Rockford advantage. Tifu pushed the Rockford lead to 4-1 with the game's only goal in the second period at 18:09.

Quad City, however, didn't rollover in the third period. Winger Patrick Nadeau began the comeback with a marker at 10:42. While on the power play, Matt Radoslovich connected at 15:23 to make the score 4-3. The IceHogs had to kill off a late Mallards 5-on-3 power play and would eventually get an empty net goal from Greg Barber at 19:46 to seal the game.

Vogel upped his record to 9-0-1 with the win while making 29 saves. Tapp was given the loss after turning away 22 Rockford shots. Rockford finished the contest 1-for-8 on the advantage and held the Mallards to 2-for-11.
