Frontenacs to honour Mike Zigomanis' sweater

The Kingston Frontenacs are proud to announce that they will be honouring long-time fan favorites Mike Zigomanis and Keli Corpse this upcoming season. Both will see their sweater numbers raised to the rafters, with Zigomanis' ceremony to be held on opening night Friday, Sept. 25th against the Soo Greyhounds.

"These two elite franchise players were both outstanding on the ice as well as within the community when they played here, "said Jeff Stilwell, Director of Marketing, Public, Media and Player Relations. " We found it fitting to honour both individuals and the fans of Kingston will see Mike's (Zigomanis) #7 and Keli's (Corpse) #88 raised to the rafters at the K-Rock Centre with the other honoured player banners," he added.

Zigomanis and Corpse will join previous honourees Mike O'Connell (#5), Brad Rhiness (#10), Tony McKegney (#7) Ken Linseman (#14), and David Ling (#17).

A second round selection by the Frontenacs in the 1997 OHL Priority selection, Zigomanis was one point shy of tying the franchise record for points by a 16 year rookie when he recorded 74 in 1997-98. This earned him OHL Second Team All-Rookie Team at the end of the season. "Ziggy" earned hi first OHL hardware when he was awarded the William Hanley Trophy after the 1999-200 season, which goes to the Most Gentlemanly Player in the League. The following season he represented Canada on the World Juniors stage when he won a bronze medal in 2001. Playing four seasons with the Club, he stands third all-time in goals with 132, fifth all-time in assists with 198 and third all-time in points with 330. He also captained the Club for the last two seasons of his OHL career and twice he led the Club in scoring. Drafted twice to the National Hockey League, 64th overall in 1999 to the Buffalo Sabres and then 46th overall to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2001, last season he won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Mike Zigomanis will be on hand Friday the 25th to participate in the ceremonies, and will signing autographs during the 1st period intermission and will be available to the media afterwards.
