Green Bay Rockers News Release
Eau Claire, WI - June 20th, 2011 - Green Bay stranded seven runners in scoring position in the 2-1 loss on the road against the Eau Claire Express on Monday. Josh Martin started for Green Bay and went five innings allowing one earned run in his first loss of the year. Green Bay falls to 11-8 on the season after dropping a pivotal series opener. The 'Frogs sit a game back of the Madison Mallards and Eau Claire Express who are tied for first place in the Northwoods League's South Division.
The 'Frogs loaded the bases in the first inning without a base hit. Joe Betcher was hit by starter Matt McDaniel to begin the game. Matt Ozanne walked to put the first two runners on. After a strike out by David Popkins, Andy Hunter and Billy Moon walked to force in the first and only run for the Bullfrogs on Monday night at Carson Park.
Green Bay put two runners on in the second with one out which prompted a pitching change by Eau Claire who brought in Ben Kincaid. Both runners moved into scoring position after a wild pitch by Kincad to Ozanne who would strike out before Popkins grounded out to end the threat.
The 'Frogs got a lead-off double in the third by Andy Hunter who moved to third base on a single by Billy Moon. With no outs Phillip Ervin fouled out and McAlpine grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the threat. That sequence began a stretch of 13 in a row retired by Kincaid who would not allow a hit in his final four innings of relief.
Eau Claire tied the game in the fourth with a solo home run from Nick Addision. In the fifth, the Express took the lead on a bases-loaded walk with two outs after the inning had been extended on an error. Green Bay had a runner in scoring position in each of the last three innings as well, but they never got the big hit on Monday.
The bullpen remained untouched by the Express this season. They have not allowed a run in 10 innings pitched against Eau Claire. The Express entered the game as the league's best offense. This is the third game in the last five that Green Bay has faced the club with the best team batting average in the NWL. The 'Frogs pitching staff allowed three runs in two games to the Mallards and just two runs against the Express on Monday.
Green Bay is 2-2 on their season-long seven-game road trip after dropping the first of a three-game set against the Express. Tune in all road-trip long at www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
