
Eight Current and Former Mallards Still Competing in 2011 College World Series

Three current Mallards and five former players is still competing in the 2011 College World Series as their respective schools continue their quest for a national title. The following players have made valuable contributions to their teams through the NCAA Super Regionals (in alphabetical order):
Stephen Bruno (IF, Virginia)
Bruno hit .240 for the Cavaliers this spring over seven games. He played for the Mallards in 2010 and went on to hit .256 with three doubles, one home run, and 16 RBI over 24 games.
Reed Gragnani (IF, Virginia)
Gragnani appeared in 49 games for the Cavaliers this spring and hit .276 with five doubles, two triples, and 31 RBI. Like Bruno, he also played in Madison last summer and hit .303 with 10 doubles and 20 RBI.
John Hicks (C, Virginia)
Hicks was recently selected in the 4th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners after having a monster spring season that saw him hit .338 with 21 doubles, seven home runs, and 58 RBI. He played in Madison for one summer in 2009 and recorded a .273 batting average with nine doubles, four home runs, and 17 RBI.
Matt Juengel (OF, Texas A&M)
Juengel has been a staple in the line-up for the Aggies. In the two-to-one series win over Florida State to advance to the College World Series, Juengel was in the starting line-up for all three games, tallying hits in every game.
Ryan Levine (C, Virginia)
Levine appeared in 32 games for the Cavaliers this spring and hit .304 with three doubles and 13 RBI. He played for the Mallards in 2010 and hit .294 with eight doubles, two home runs, and 19 RBI.
Zack Powers (INF, Florida)
Like his teammate, Powers did not make an appearance in the Super Regionals. Powers, also a freshman, played in 35 total games thus far for Florida as an infielder and is hitting .250 with no home runs and seven driven in.
Estevan Uriegas (P, Texas A&M)
Uriegas has appeared in 19 games for the Aggies, going 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA. Uriegas, a sophomore, did not appear in the Super Regionals for Texas A&M.
Cody Winiarski (P, Virginia)
Winiarski, who pitched for the Mallards in 2009 and was named to the Northwoods League Mid-Season All-Star Team, had a highly-effective spring season for the Cavaliers in posting a 6-3 record and 3.04 ERA over 13 starts. He amassed 74 total innings and struck out 57 batters.
Florida won their opening game over Texas, 8-4 and will play Vanderbilt in their next game at 7:00 p.m. EST on Monday night in the winner's bracket. Powers did not see any game time in the Gators' win. His teammate, Jonathon Crawford, who has also signed to play for the Mallards this summer, is not traveling with the team and is expected to arrive in Madison this week.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M lost their opening game to South Carolina 5-4, and will now take on California on Tuesday in a 2:00 p.m. EST affair.
Virginia, winners over California on Sunday, 4-1, will next battle South Carolina on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. EST.
The Madison Mallards are members of the 16-team summer collegiate Northwoods League. Great seats remain for all games!
