The RoughRiders held Midland scoreless on Sunday, 7-0, and are now one game behind the RockHounds in the standings
Frisco recorded just six hits, but were still able to plate seven runs, defeating Midland 7-0 on Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco starter Michael Ballard allowed just four hits and struck out seven over 7.1 scoreless frames. Johnny Whittleman had the biggest hit for Frisco, a three-run home run to seal the game for Frisco.
The game was scoreless through five innings until Frisco made it 1-0 in the sixth when Craig Gentry singled and scored on a Dustin Majewski double. The RoughRiders pushed the lead to 2-0 with another run in the seventh when Jarrod Saltalamacchia scored on a throwing error. The RoughRiders then scored five in the eighth inning with the big blow coming from Whittleman who hit his ninth homer of the season, a three-run shot, to give Frisco the 7-0 victory.
Ballard (6-6) struck out seven over 7.1 scoreless innings to earn his sixth win on the season. Frisco reliever Zach Phillips didn't allow a run over his 1.2 innings to notch his second save of the season. Midland starter Arnold Leon (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing just one run over 5.2 innings.
Gentry and Majewski each had a pair of hits to lead the Frisco offense as Gentry added two runs scored. Saltalamacchia went 0-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
The RoughRiders are just one game behind the RockHounds for first place as Frisco will go for the sweep on Monday against Midland. First pitch is at 7 p.m. from Dr Pepper Ballpark.
