Round Rock Express News Release
It was fives all around for the Round Rock Express Sunday night. Unfortunately, all the fives belonged to the Frisco RoughRiders. Frisco scored five runs on five hits in the fifth inning to give them more than enough to down Round Rock, 6-0, in front of 10,388 at The Dell Diamond.
Starter Greg Powell, making only his second start at the Double A level, was very effective through the first four innings, allowing only one run. Then came the fateful fifth, though.
Four consecutive Frisco batters got hits, including a two-run double from Laynce Nix that put the final runs on the board.
After that, Travis Hughes took over. Making his first start for the RoughRiders after spending the season at Triple A Oklahoma, Hughes was remarkable. A week after Round Rock's D.J. Houlton threw the first complete game shutout in the Texas League this year, Hughes equaled him. He allowed only four hits and struck out eight.
Gavin Wright did extend his hitting streak to seven games with a fifth inning single.
Powell (2-5) was the loser and Hughes (1-0) got his first win.
The four-game series will conclude Monday at 7:05 p.m.
