Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Victor Alvarez pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out six and Chad Hermansen went 5 for 5, including four RBIs, a homerun and a stolen base as the Las Vegas 51s (35-21) shut out the Beavers before 7,865 fans Saturday night at PGE Park.

Larry Barnes started things off early for the 51s with a two-run RBI double in the top of the first that scored Joe Thurston and Chad Hermansen. Chin-Feng Chen then followed up with a double of his own, scoring Barnes and giving Las Vegas a 3-0 lead.

A wild pitch in the second sent Eric Riggs home and an infield single by Hermansen scored Wilkin Ruan, putting the 51s in front 5-0.

Las Vegas scored the bulk of their remaining runs in the sixth, when Thurston hit in two runs on a single to center and Hermansen smacked a two-run shot to left, making it a ten run ballgame.

The Beavers (30-27) only had one base runner reach third all night, when Gomez was left there in the sixth.

Dennis Tankersley (2-6) got the loss for the Beavers, giving up eight earned runs on eleven hits in 5.2 innings.
