Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Despite another solid performance by Portland starter Oliver Perez, the Beavers failed to generate enough offense to beat the 51s, who came out on top 2-1 in Pacific Coast League play before 5,953 Sunday afternoon at PGE Park.

Perez (2-3) went eight innings, giving up two runs, one of them earned, on five hits while striking out eight. Both runs came in the eighth inning after Calvin Murray hit a single to center that was misplayed by Alex Fernandez, allowing Wilkin Ruan and Eric Riggs to score and hand Las Vegas a 2-0 lead.

Portland got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when Alex Pelaez hit an RBI single to right, scoring Fernandez and making it a 2-1 ballgame. Unfortunately it was too little, too late for the Beavers, who dropped their second straight.

Andrew Lorraine (4-3) notched the win for the 51s, allowing four hits and no runs in seven innings.
