Midland, TX-A five run Midland fourth was the difference maker, as Frisco dropped the series finale to its division rival 8-3 Thursday night at Citibank Ballpark. In the inning, the RockHounds recorded seven singles, and sent 11 men to the plate.
The RoughRiders got on the board first against RockHounds starter Gary Daley Jr. (5-2). Engel Beltre opened the game with a base hit, and stole second after the throw by catcher Ryan Ortiz went off the glove of Dusty Coleman and caromed into the outfield. Beltre advanced to third on a double-play ball, and scored on a single by Brad Hawpe.
Midland added a run in the home half of the inning to tie the game 1-1. Connor Crumbliss worked his way around the bases after giving the "ËHounds their first hit off Tim Murphy (1-4). After advancing to third on a passed ball and a fielder's choice, Crumbliss scored on a wild pitch to Michael Choice.
Two innings later, Beltre helped the "ËRiders take the lead back, doubling to left off Daley. Jurickson Profar put together a professional bat, singling Beltre to third, while a 5-4-3 twin killing brought home the "ËRiders centerfielder to make it 2-1.
In the fourth the RockHounds would use seven singles to bring five runs home. Three straight one-baggers loaded the bases, while Ryan Ortiz and Dusty Coleman cleared them with back-to-back base knocks. Connor Crumbliss and Josh Horton also added RBIs to make it 6-2. Like Wednesday night's game, 11 different Midland hitters came to bat in the inning.
Mike Olt cut the deficit in half, with an RBI double in the top of the fifth; however Midland countered with a 2-run homer by Ryan Ortiz in the bottom of the seventh, to give Midland its largest lead of the game.
