Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The Frisco RoughRiders (1-0) started off the 2008 campaign in the win column with a 6-3 victory over the Springfield Cardinals (0-1) on Thursday night at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri.

Matt Harrison looked sharp in a winning effort as he tossed 5 innings of shut out baseball before surrendering a run in the sixth inning. Harrison struck out six and walked none in 5 2/3 innings of work.

The 'Riders did a majority of their damage with two outs and runners in scoring position. Frisco built a 3-0 lead after two out, RBI singles by Taylor Teagarden, Craig Gentry, and Elvis Andrus. The RoughRiders stretched their lead to five with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. In the inning, Gentry forced home a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Andrus had a RBI ground out.

Springfield began to chip a way at the Frisco lead with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. However, Frisco pushed the lead back to three at 6-3 when John Mayberry singled, stole second, and scored on a Chris Davis single.

Warner Madrigal shut the door on the Cardinals in the ninth as he struck out two to earn his first save.

Davis paced the RoughRiders offense with three hits on the night while Gentry and Andrus each collected a pair of RBI. Left fielder Shane Robinson had three hits in three at bats for Sringfield.

The 'Riders will look to remain perfect in 2008 as they send Scott Feldman to the mound Friday night in Springfield while the Cardinals counter with lefthander Jaime Garcia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and can be heard on the radio home of the RoughRiders AM 1630 KKGM.
