Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals won their inaugural game Thursday night in San Antonio defeating the San Antonio Missions 6-4. Dusty Hughes was the winning pitcher for the Naturals with 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Carlos Rosa who pitched the first 4 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned with 5 strikeouts. Devon Lowery pitched two-thirds of an inning before Matt Peterson closed it out by pitching 1.2 innings allowing only a solo homerun. Peterson was credited with the save.

The Naturals never trailed in the game. They jumped to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning on Juan Richardson's RBI line drive infield single off pitcher Mike Ekstrom's ankle, and Kila Kaaihue's two-run single. San Antonio tied it in the bottom of the 4th with 3 runs but the Naturals responded immediately. In the top of the 5th, Brian McFall blasted the first homerun in Naturals' history, a 2-run bomb to left to make it a 5-3 game.

That was the score until the top of the 9th when the Naturals tacked on an insurance run. Mario Lisson led off with a double, moved the 3rd on Juan Richardson's groundout and then scored on Kila Kaaihue's groundout. Kaaihue finished the game with 3 RBIs. The Missions tried to rally in the 9th getting a lead-off homer from Brett Dowdy but Peterson recorded 3 consecutive outs to end it.

Jose Duarte was the hitting star for the Naturals going 3-3 with 2 walks and 2 stolen bases. Juan Richardson, Marc Maddox and Brian McFall each had two hits.

The Naturals and Missions resume their series at 7:05 on Friday night. Julio Pimentel pitches for the Naturals against Will Inman of the Missions.
